The Graduate College, Missouri State University is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student with strong expertise and interest in agentic artificial intelligence, AI-enabled process automation, and human-AI systems.
The Student AI & Automation Specialist will work with university staff to identify administrative and office processes that can be improved through the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence and automation. The goal is not simply to introduce AI tools, but to design practical human-AI workflows that make work easier, more efficient, and more consistent while maintaining appropriate human oversight.
A central focus of the position will be developing AI-supported processes that can be successfully used and maintained by employees who do not have backgrounds in computer science, programming, or artificial intelligence. The position provides an opportunity to apply emerging AI technologies to real-world organizational challenges and help shape responsible approaches to AI-enabled work within a university environment.

Primary Responsibilities
· Analyze existing administrative and office workflows to identify opportunities for AI-assisted automation and process improvement.
  • Design and prototype agentic AI workflows in which AI systems can assist with multi-step tasks while maintaining appropriate human review and decision points.
  • Develop AI-supported processes for routine administrative activities such as information gathering, document processing, communication, data organization, reporting, scheduling, and other office functions.
  • Connect AI tools, applications, and information sources to create practical automated or semi-automated workflows.
  • Design human-AI systems that clearly define which tasks should be completed by AI, which require human judgment, and where human review or approval should occur.
  • Create interfaces, workflows, prompts, instructions, and documentation that allow nontechnical employees to use AI-enabled systems effectively.
  • Test AI-supported processes with end users and improve them based on usability, reliability, and effectiveness.
  • Document workflows so that systems can be understood, maintained, and improved by others.
  • Apply principles of responsible AI, including attention to privacy, data security, transparency, accuracy, bias, appropriate human oversight, and responsible use of university information.
  • Stay informed about emerging developments in agentic AI, automation, and human-AI collaboration and identify technologies that may have practical applications within university operations.
