The Career and Academic Advisor II provides educational and career guidance, consultation, and expertise appropriate to the needs of students interested in health and legal professions. This position monitors academic success. The Career and Academic Advisor II assists students in developing a personalized plan for pursuing their individual goals including evaluation and selection of nationally competitive programs. This position develops and manages programs, services, and processes to ensure student success.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends during special events, as needed.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Ability to process and easily reference policies and regulations.
  • Ability to work with student databases and other information technology and web programs.
  • Working knowledge of standard computer software such as office suite, email, etc., as well as extensive experience with a desktop graphical user interface as found in Windows or Mac operating systems. 
  • Ability to learn and utilize specific software necessary for academic and career advising practice.
  • Ability and desire for continuous improvement and learning academic and career advising best practices.
  • Ability to implement academic and career development practices.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • 2 years of experience in pre-law advising, pre-health advising (all fields), and/or career counseling, teaching, or dynamic student support.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with higher education policies, procedures, and academic systems.
  • Familiarity with higher education policies, procedures, and academic systems.
