Leave Administrator

Advises employees and managers on the organization’s leave programs, including maternity or paternity leave, medical or disability leave, military leave, or unpaid leave. Analyzes leave claims or requests, determines employee eligibility, advises managers of alternate work arrangements, and assists departments with employees’ return of service. Records leaves in the HRIS systems as needed. Ensures compliance with internal and external policies and regulations.

Answers incoming questions from employees and managers on the organization’s leave programs, including FMLA leave, paid parental leave, medical leave, military leave, and non-health related leaves. Intakes leave requests and insurance claims (Workers’ Compensation, Disability, and Life). Coordinates with employees, departments, and medical providers to obtain information to process leaves and claims. Refers employees to the Workplace Accommodations Team when necessary.

Enters leave-related data into the HRIS, payroll and/or leave system as needed. Performs work under supervision. Manages leave and claim issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses working knowledge of subject matter. Requires knowledge of leave laws (FMLA, USERRA, WC, etc.), basic skill set, and proficiency. Conducts work assignments as directed.

This position is hybrid, so the incumbent will be required to work at least one day per week onsite, but will also be able to telecommute. An employee hired into this role who telecommutes will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking, and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and sign the University of Utah Telecommuting Agreement
