A fully funded PhD position in Immunology and Dendritic Cell Biology is now open at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich), one of Europe’s leading research universities. This opportunity is ideal for international and domestic applicants seeking advanced doctoral training in biomedical sciences within a world-class research environment in Germany.
About Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich)
Founded in 1472, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München is consistently ranked among the top universities in Europe and worldwide. The PhD position is offered at the Faculty of Medicine, Biomedical Center (BMC), Institute for Immunology, located at the Martinsried research campus, one of Germany’s most important scientific hubs.
The research will be conducted in the Schraml Lab, an international research group focused on dendritic cells, immune development, and neonatal immune homeostasis. The lab applies advanced methodologies including single-cell transcriptomics, high-dimensional flow cytometry, and multiparameter microscopy. More information about the research group is available on the Schraml Lab website at https://www.schraml-lab.de/ and the LMU Institute for Immunology page at https://www.immunologie.med.uni-muenchen.de/research_neu/ag_schraml/index.html.
PhD Research Focus
The doctoral project investigates how developing tissue microenvironments influence dendritic cell fate and immune system development, particularly in early life stages. Since tissues are still forming during early development, understanding the interaction between stromal cells and dendritic cells is essential for explaining how immune balance is established.
The research will involve the use of transgenic mouse models, single-cell transcriptomics, high-dimensional flow cytometry, multiparameter microscopy, and functional in vitro and in vivo assays. This PhD will provide strong training in modern immunology and experimental biomedical research.
