This interdisciplinary doctoral project is part of the Research School in Regulatory Science, aimed at training researchers to bridge scientific innovation and regulatory expertise. Research Focus

The PhD project explores:

  • Development and optimization of solid oral dosage forms.
  • Strategies for dose adjustment and off-label use of narrow therapeutic index (NTI) drugs.
  • Regulatory challenges in individualized therapy and special populations.
  • Integration of pharmacokinetics, modeling, and simulation using tools such as PK-Sim, MoBi, and R packages.
  • Evidence-based approaches to risk mitigation, quality control, and clinical safety.

The project combines pharmaceutical technology, drug formulation, pharmacokinetics, and regulatory science, preparing candidates for careers in industry, academia, or governmental regulatory bodies.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline with foundational knowledge in drug development.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Strong motivation and interest in research related to drug formulation, quality control, and pharmacokinetics.
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacokinetics, modeling, and simulation tools is advantageous.
  • Analytical, precise, flexible, and collaborative, with the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

Employment Details

  • Full-time doctoral position with a fixed-term contract.
  • Employment based in Uppsala, Sweden, with salary determined according to Uppsala University guidelines.
  • The PhD program is expected to last four years, extendable to five years if departmental duties are included.
  • Doctoral studies may include up to 20% teaching or administrative duties requiring Swedish language skills.
  • Applicants must be admitted or expected to be admitted to doctoral studies at Uppsala University.
