Fayetteville State University (FSU), a public comprehensive, historically Black university, offers robust and innovative degree programs rooted in the liberal arts tradition. What began in 1867 as a one-building school established by Black community leaders to educate Black children in Fayetteville has grown into a 156-acre campus serving more than 7,700 students. Today, FSU advances knowledge through teaching, learning, research, and public service while preparing students from rural, military, and other diverse backgrounds to serve their communities as enlightened citizens, globally astute leaders, and engaged solution creators.

FSU has many nationally ranked academic programs, including the School of Nursing and online MBA, as well as a proud tradition in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The University also has strong Army and Air Force ROTC programs that prepare students for leadership in the U.S. military. Through its academic programs and community partnerships, FSU continues to serve the region while preparing graduates to make a positive impact through their professions.

Since 1972, Fayetteville State University has been one of 17 institutions within the University of North Carolina System, which serves the state through teaching, research and scholarship, and outreach and service. More than 256,000 students are enrolled in the UNC System’s 16 universities and the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics.
