Job Summary:

The Financial Specialist III position is in the Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) within the Department of Transportation Services. Transportation Services is responsible for the coordination and administration of all transportation-related services for the UW campus community.

The Financial Specialist III role manages payroll deductions for an estimated 13,500 customers totaling an estimated $10 million annually. This role handles debt collection for unpaid permits and citations while collaborating across campus departments. The ideal candidate is highly skilled at Excel, combining sharp financial detail with top-tier customer service, and easily implementing complex policies.

Hours are generally scheduled from 7:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday through Friday.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Reviews transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures
  • Serve as a unit liaison to leadership providing financial advice, recommendations, and financial status updates
  • Monitors financial transactions and fund balances and generates and reconciles complex reports and statements in accordance with established rules and regulations
  • Reallocates expenses to appropriate funding strings
  • May train staff on financial processes and best practices
  • Drafts communications and reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
  • Reviews and approves complex transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
  • Answers complex fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences
  • Coordinates the collection of outstanding and past due accounts, including all aspects of collection, analysis and resolution of billing issues
  • Contributes to the coordination and delivery of financial services across the department to support operational needs
  • Audits and submits payroll deduction payment request files

The primary functions of Transportation Services include the sale/management of parking permits, special event coordination, maintenance and enforcement, construction coordination, lot and booth operations, citation payments and appeals, information technology, financial, transportation planning, and development of multimodal options.

Compensation:

$56,000 annual minimum

The starting salary for the position is $56,000, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years of professional experience in finance, accounts receivable, collections, or bookkeeping

  • 2 years of direct customer service experience, specifically explaining complex rules or handling collections in a professional manner

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Excel capability using formulas, data filters, and pivot tables

Education:

  • Associate's Degree Preferred; focus in finance, accounting, business, or related field preferred
